things i am grateful for

it's been a while, i know. so....lately i was thinking, i need to appreciate the beautiful things that really do happen every day.

Today, i went to the post office. One, to mail a softball photo album for my boss (awesome coach!!), and two, to mail a secret wish box to my sweet friend in MO. I spent my time at the prep counter, picking out the right bubble-poof envelope for each item, addressed them and got in line. there were a few ladies in line gossiping about how this station was probably going to close soon, and where they will have to go when it does, and a little old lady with a (bad-ass) walker (who was sitting on the bench and resting) stood up to get her place in line. i said, "oh, it'll be a bit... how about i save your place in front of me?". she nodded her approval and sat back down. she was wearing pink pants, a red and white striped shirt with a lavender cardigan over it. she had an amazing straw sunhat with a yellow flower just off to the right on the side of the hat, there were about 7 necklaces and around 4 rings and jingly bracelets all over.
when her turn came, she warbled up to the counter with her fancy walker-wheelie thing. She pulled out this book of stamps, and said to the mail lady, "i cant see these stamps i bought yesterday, i can't find the edges to use them, will you please trade me for ones i can see?". and the mail lady said, "no, policy is that i actually can't. i'm sorry." so, i bought an extra book of stamps and traded with her, some big colorful ones, with big white edges.
as i was driving away, i remembered her saying she was legally blind....and wondered if she had driven there by herself or not.....

Chicken-butt

Every morning I make my coffee and head out for a "Chicken Check" to gather up the eggs, check on water and food and say good morning to my ladies, Hillary and Greta, and let them out to roam around the yard for the day. They spend the day hanging out in different parts of the yard at certain times of day, looking in my sliding glass door and, taunting my horrible cat.

When I do laundry they come running, taking turns trying to get in the laundry closet with me. I've caught Hillary hanging out in the dryer more than once. I think she thinks I like the dryer and wants in on the attention I give it. She loves attention and will hop up on the back table when she wants to get petted. Kitchen-chicken-scraps are always very exciting, grapes are one of their favorites... and mine too because it usually turns in to a chicken soccer match.

My favorite thing, besides the pretty blue-green eggs, is when I come home they run up to the gate and then walk me to the door. My little chicken entourage.

Simply Perfect

Sometimes, I just want a beautiful board of cheese and little nibbles for dinner. There is something so calming and not able to be rushed about it.

Some Blue and honey, some Fontina, sweet grapes and some water crackers and let's not forget a nice bottle of red wine.
